Prefects' Commissioning

The position of Prefect must be regarded as the most challenging form of leadership in a school environment.  The position demands that each of those chosen demonstrates a full time commitment to being the best they can be; not only in the classroom but in the wider life of the school and in the Rathkeale community.

Bishop Tom, the nine students I am about to commend to you have the support of their peers and the staff of Rathkeale College.  I ask them to accept their responsibilities with the conviction to make decisions in the best interests of the school and to have the courage to stand apart when they find themselves challenged to do what is right.

In addition to everyday service we will ask these young men to accept their roles and responsibilities as :

·      leaders of our boarding houses and day boys;

·      leaders in the spiritual life of the school;

·      leaders in academic, cultural and sporting activities;

·      community leaders, both within the school and through extended activities; to support the wider welfare of those in need;

and through their actions, set the tone and ethos of the school .

To the parents of our prefects, we thank you for the support you provide for your sons and in turn the school.  We trust that you will be enriched by the extended opportunities your families have to enjoy an association with each other .

I invite the following young men to come forward:
