Bill Clinton-Baker - a loyal St Martin's supporter

Bill Clinton-Baker

The recent death of Bill Clinton-Baker is a huge loss to St Martin's Chapel and the committee which is overseeing its restoration.

As the Founder’s representative on the St Martin’s committee, Bill was an enormous asset and loyal supporter. He saw St Martin ’s as the natural successor to the small Founder’s Chapel which has now become a weights room at the end of the gymnasium. Bill was the Rathkeale Site Committee Chairman from 1969 -1979 and he drove the project to add the Founders’ Chapel to the Sanctuary in 1979. He brought the same enthusiasm and drive to the St Martin ’s project.

Bill never lost heart during the protracted resource consent battle and was tenacious in seeking donations from both individuals and trusts once St Martin ’s arrived.

He had a clear vision for what must be achieved before the re-consecration in November this year and the committee will work hard to ensure that this occurs.

In recognition of Bill's achievements throughout his long association with Rathkeale College, he was presented with the John Norman Medal for outstanding service to the school at the 2006 Prize Giving.
